There is an old war story about a US Army soldier who was shot down behind enemy lines in World War II.

Luck seemed to be on his side, he had successfully avoided being captured by German soldiers, but as he was about to cross over into friendly territory he was suddenly confronted with a tragic life-or-death situation.

The French border guards didn't speak English, he didn't speak French and he had no identifying unit patches or papers.

Looking down the barrel of a loaded gun he now realized the horrible truth. If he didn't identify himself as an ally, and fast, he faced certain death by firing squad.

Suddenly he remembered a small secret token given to him by a French paratrooper for good luck.

(The idea for the Club Fearless Challenge coin came from Club Founder Scott Goodknight who received this coin upon entering the 3/75 Ranger Battalion.)

The man was dead now but the American carried the coin for good luck and as a reminder of his friend.

Quickly he pulled out the coin and showed it to the border guards. They were not impressed. But a French officer overheard the commotion and came over to investigate.

When the officer saw the coin he immediately recognized it as a secret coin only possessed by members of an elite unit he also once belonged to.

He cautiously brought in a translator, confirmed the American soldiers' identity and then proudly escorted him through the lines to safety, much to everyone's relief and excitement.

When the story got back to the command units they saw the value of carrying coins with secret symbols.

From that day forward special coins were created and issued to be used as secret "tokens" which would appear as normal coin and currency. But to a trained eye these coins possessed hidden signs and symbols which could help verify friend or foe.

In modern times challenge coins are used to show loyalty to the history of your unit and as a symbol of kinship, esprit de corp and camaraderie.

Like the secret challenge coins used by special forces soldiers of the past, The Club Fearless Skull and Bones coin is a silent and powerful symbol of Respect and Trust.

Each coin is individually numbered 1/100 so each coin is unique. Just like you. In this sense no two coins are exactly alike.
